Psychological Services

Psychological Services, one of several service delivery areas within the Division of Exceptional Student Education & Support Services, provides leadership for a comprehensive program of psychological services provided by over 130 school psychologists employed by the school district. Services provided include: psycho-educational evaluations; consultation with teachers and staff on student’s academic, behavioral, and mental health needs; assistance with intervention design, implementation, and progress monitoring of student’s academic and behavioral challenges as a core member of the Collaborative Problem Solving team at each Broward school; responding to crises in all district schools; coordination of threat assessment training and monitoring activities; participation in threat assessments and violence prevention activities; management of the School Psychology Internship Program; recruitment of candidates for school psychologist positions; provision of professional development experiences in innovative practice skills; collaboration with school district staff in making effective use of psychological services; evaluation of psychological services; participation in state and federal compliance mandates; and maintenance of psychological records.

School psychologists work as integral members of support teams in delivering their services. They may be assigned to a district department team, or deployed to one or more schools to provide a full range of psychological services. Each school has access to the services of one or more psychologists to address the needs of its students, staff, and community.

The services performed by school psychologists have a positive impact on the lives of individual students and their parents, and on the learning environment. School psychologists play important roles in pursuing the district’s priority goals and implementation of the district’s mission.

The Psychological Services Department is a past recipient of the Excellence in School Psychology Award jointly presented by the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists; and the Innovative Practices in School Psychology Award from the Florida Association of School Psychologists. In addition, the National Association of School Psychologists recognized Psychological Services for providing exemplar web-based information for users. Most recently, the department was recognized by Nova Southeastern University as Corporate Partner of the Year.
